Do you wear engagement ring on wedding day?

Do You Wear Engagement Ring On Wedding Day

The short answer is yes.

A lot of brides switch their engagement ring to the right hand before the ceremony. That way the groom could place the wedding band on a naked finger, then the bride could put it back on after the ceremony!

The answer we’ve been told is just before you walk down the aisle, switch the ring to your right hand. Then during the ceremony, the wedding band goes on your left hand in its “appropriate” spot. Then after the ceremony, switch your engagement ring back to the left hand.

But there are other choices for wearing the ring on your big day.

Let’s first talk about wedding ring etiquette. Your engagement ring and/or wedding band should go on the fourth finger of the left hand. The order of the rings (stacked) are wedding band on the bottom and engagement ring on top.

You won’t receive your wedding band until the ceremony, but know that you will have to remove the engagement ring at some point. When you remove it in order to add your wedding band is totally up to you.

Wear your engagement ring like normal for now. As for the wedding day, you have 3 options – wear it on your right hand, wear it as normal, or don’t wear it at all.

Wear it on your right hand

Wearing it on your right and switching is for if you’re super traditional and believe the wedding ring shouldn’t leave your finger once it’s put on at the altar. For most of us that’s not realistic because the engagement ring may not fit on your right hand.

Although some still like the symbolism of at least not moving it for the night, hence switching the engagement ring over afterwards to be on top.

Wear it as normal

Most people chose to wear it as normal if it doesn’t fit on their right hand. The groom could put the wedding band on top of the engagement ring during the ceremony and then just swapped them afterwards. So that the engagement ring sat on top of your wedding band as your wedding band should be closest to your heart.

Don’t wear it at all

Benefits of not wearing your engagement ring gives a cleaner and smooth transition during the ring exchange. His finger will be bare and so will yours. And there wont be any other rings to distract or confuse the groom.

Get a ring box for the best man to hold the bands in until the pastor ask for them during the ceremony. Not wearing your engagement ring down the isle is an easy option if you just want your band for that special moment.

What about wearing gloves with engagement ring on wedding day?

This is not mentioned much but if you are wearing gloves on your wedding day rings should not be worn or placed on top of the glove.

During the ceremony, the best option is to remove both gloves entirely and give them to your maid of honor or family member. Then you could put the glove on over the ring afterwards.

Another way is to separate a glove between the last joint and knuckle, at the palm of your hand, and slip the glove off one finger to put a ring on it.

Getting rings soldered together

If you get your engagement ring soldered to your wedding band, then you will have to be without your rings before the wedding ceremony. You will need to give them to the best man for him to hold during the ceremony.

Conclusion

It’s really up to you. You could wear it on your wedding then switch it after the ceremony. Or you could wear it on your right hand and after he puts the wedding band on, nonchalantly put your ring back on your left hand.

Or have it where he puts both on you. Lastly, you could save your keep your engagement ring at home snd just rock the wedding band. There is no right or wrong way to do this.
