Daddy did not approve
Back in the old days of “courtship” the father had to approve of the grooms proposal. If the father did not approve of the marriage ( how rude) that meant no money to equip your new home with your spouse. That is when bridal showers came in. Bridal showers were events to give to the bride home goods that she wouldn’t have if she weren’t given the charity. Women would get together give gifts to the bride to help her out.

Bridal showers are very dainty, girly parties. Where chatter and tea take part. This is still a tradition of bridal shower that has lasted through the ages.
Do not expect a full meal
When I say dainty I MEAN DAINTY. There will be snacks and sweets but do not expect a full course meal. There will be hors d’oeuvres and it may be just enough to hold you over. But after a while your tummy might start grumbling for more. Especially once the bride starts opening her gifts.
Bridesmaids and maid of honor are expected to pitch in on bridal shower expenses.
Yes add it to all of your other expenses for the wedding. Since there will be money dished out. It is important that the bridal shower is it is not over complicated. Bride’s maids may feel entitle to their way of doing things. It is important to remember is all for the bride to be. It should be what the bride likes and what she would want in a bridal shower.
You do NOT have to buy an expensive gift
Get something nice and simple and save your fancy gift for the actual wedding.
